*The little loop is only done at the beginning of the first lap. Afterwards, everyone runs the same North and South Loops. Loops must be run in the proper order (i.e., L, N, S, N, S, N, S, …) and runners must check in with the timing table between each loop. This is the responsibility of each individual runner.
Location: The Pavilion adjacent to the Park Office of the Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, AL.

Parking: Park in the Hiker’s parking lot, biker’s parking lot, and along the side of the road. Please do not block the road and please don’t park at the park store or camp ground entrance.
Course description: Little Loop – Starting on pavement and quickly turning into gravel and dirt trails. The little loop is relatively flat. https://www.strava.com/activities/643051241
North Loop – Starting on Firetower trail you cross over Nolen Avenue and take a right turn on the blue N. Plateau Loop. Run behind the lodge, amphitheater and the main park pavilion. Cross back over Nolen Avenue at the park entrance and continue to follow the blue trail until you drop down Cold Springs (steep downhill). Cross closed Bankhead and continue onto Mountain Mist. Turn left at the first Sinks intersection and follow the Sinks Trail all the way around to 3 benches. Climb Sinks trail up (steep uphill) to the biker’s parking lot and then follow the Cabin Road and reconnect with the blue N. Plateau Loop coming into the back side of the pavilion. Other than the drop off at Cold Springs and the climb at Sinks this loop is slightly rolling. https://www.strava.com/activities/643050609
South Loop – Starting on the Family Bike Trail, the south loop will make you dizzy with all the cut backs and turns. Single track trails will turn to the white S. Plateau Loop which is mainly double track and eventually turns to gravel road. The trail turns back to single track with a slightly technical decline and incline (technical as compared to the rest of the south loop) before exiting out on Nolen Avenue. This loop is relatively flat https://www.strava.com/activities/643050870
Time constraints: The park is only open from sunrise to sunset. The cutoff times are firm; we need to make sure everyone is off the trail by 4:30 p.m. to prevent wearing out our welcome at the park! top
Packet Pickup: Packet pickup will be at Fleet Feet Sports, located at 2750 Carl T Jones Drive, in the Valley Bend Shopping Center, from the hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 18th. Packets can also be picked up before the start of the race, starting at 5:30 a.m. top
Facilities: There are separate men's and women's bathrooms at the Park Office, which is directly adjacent to the start of the run. top
Lodging: For those interested in staying within the State Park, there are cabins for rent, as well as RV hookups and primitive campsites. Contact the Park Office at (256) 534-3757 for more information. http://www.alapark.com/monte-sano-state-park top
Faster runners should first look ahead and see if there is a place to pass without requiring the slower runner to step off the trail; If the trail is narrow, and no easy place can be found to pass, the faster runner should call out "On your left", or perhaps something even more cordial such as "Hey, can I come by on your left?" The slower runner should then make an effort to move to the appropriate side, or step off the trail to that side if necessary. The faster runner should make sure that the slower runner has heard and moved before barreling past.
Littering: We're very proud of our State Park, and want to keep it beautiful. Please DON'T drop your trash on the trails: top
Miscellaneous: Results will be posted on the website, and will be submitted to ultrarunning. top
