Board Members
Present: David Purinton (President),

(Secretary), Dick Franklin (VP-Races & Equipment), Kathy Youngren (Treasurer), Jim Oaks (Appointed Member—Cotton Row
Director), Malcolm Gillis (Appointed Member—Rocket City Marathon
Director). There were 30 additional
Huntsville Track Club Members present.
The meeting was held at Beauregards Restaurant,
David opened the
meeting with a call for review of the status of upcoming race
preparations. He mentioned that the Fund
Run will be held this coming Saturday, April 3, and volunteers are still needed
for that race. He also mentioned that
the Re-Creation Run will be held on 17 April and volunteers are welcomed.
Beth Edwards, Winter
Winds race director, announced that we had the largest turnout ever for this
year’s race on February 8 with lots of children participating, and she thanked
all those who volunteered. She also
pointed out that other track clubs have clothing and other club logo items that
they sell, and she would like to initiate such a program by purchasing a few
hats and see how HTC members respond.
Jim Oaks updated the
club on the Ball Park Run coming up on April 25. The race will be run between the double
header games. Tickets will again be
given as awards, and since the race is earlier this year there will be a longer
time left for ticket use.
Jim reported that the
Cotton Row Run numbers are about what they were last year and that the
registration price will increase to $15 on 15 April. The guest speaker for the race has not yet
been finalized but we have a couple of other possibilities we are pursuing
since Amby Burfoot was
unable to accept our invitation.
Jim also alerted the
club to the fact that this coming weekend Heather Tanner will be running in the
Olympic trials marathon.
There was no further
business, and the meeting was turned over to our guest speakers, Michelle and
Janine Nesin of Nesin
Therapy Services PC. We were treated to
an informative talk and demonstration of the need for warm-up stretching toward
the goal of injury prevention, and post-run stretching to gain length in the
muscle. Injury specific stretching was
also demonstrated in response to injuries that members were presently
experiencing or had dealt with in the past.
